Rice has been a staple food for human beings for thousands of years. In fact, some data indicates the first recorded traces of rice go back as far as 8,000-12,000 B.C.![1,2]
History lesson aside, rice has sustained, nourished, and powered humanity for eons, and despite the countless fad diets that continually infest society and seek to wreak havoc on the mental and physical health of our species, rice endures.
Why?
Because rice is f***ing awesome!
It’s:
- Affordable
- Has a long shelf-life
- Easy to prepare
- Digests easily
- Versatile
- Goddamn delicious!
Morning, noon, or night, rice can fit the bill.
It was, is, and will continue to be a fundamental carbohydrate of human performance.
That’s precisely why we created HOT RICE.
What is Hot Rice?
Hot Rice is Apollon Nutrition’s gourmet cream of rice product.
Every serving delivers 30 grams of clean, nutritious energy from milled organic long grain white rice without any sugar.
Why Rice?
Rice is a nutrient-dense, complex carbohydrate.
Complex carbs provide sustained energy for athletes, avoiding the highs and lows of cheap, simple carbs, thereby giving athletes longer-lasting energy and the ability to train harder for longer.
Rice is also one of the few foods that is generally well tolerated by all individuals. It’s hypoallergenic, gluten-free, and digests easily, thereby providing an efficient source of energy for the body’s cells.
Benefits
Improved Muscle Recovery
Protein is essential for muscle recovery, tissue repair, and hormone synthesis…but that’s not all the body needs to repair, recover and grow.
Eating carbohydrates, particularly after a hard workout, lowers cortisol, stops muscle protein breakdown, and replenishes muscle glycogen.
The more effectively (faster) you recover, the more frequently you can train, which helps you get the results you’re after quicker!
Better Performance
Carbohydrates are the preferred energy source of muscle cells during intense activity.
But, what carbohydrates are best for performance?
There are a lot of “fancy” carbohydrates and loads of sports drinks on the market that make all sorts of claims.
However, many of them also lead to GI distress (cramping, bloating, sluggishness, etc.).
Rice digests easily and provides quality energy and nutrition for hard-working gym goers.
Quick to Prepare
Look, we get it.
You’re busy (we all are).
There are endless distractions and demands for your attention these days, making it that much more difficult to devote time to proper meal prep -- leaving you with two options:
- Go out to eat
- Spend money on an expensive meal prep service
Hot Rice (cream of rice) literally takes seconds to prepare.
Simply add hot water, and voila!
You have a healthy bowl of carbohydrates at hand to fuel your recovery and growth needs.
Versatility
No matter if you're bulking, cutting, maintaining or looking to live a healthy lifestyle, Hot Rice can work!
You can scale up or scale down the serving size as needed to fit into your nutrition plan (calorie budget).
Best of all, are the flavors.
Traditional cream of rice is unflavored, which usually means you need to add sweetener (cheap sugars) to make it not taste like cardboard or wallpaper paste.
Apollon Nutrition Hot Rice comes in 3 delicious (and sugar-free!) flavors:
- Alpine Vanilla
- Dutch Chocolate
- Blueberry Muffin
Brown Rice vs White Rice
Brown rice is typically thought of as being “healthier” than white rice. While it does have slightly more fiber, protein, and micronutrients than white rice, it really isn’t all that meaningful in the grand scheme of things. Plus, white rice is typically enriched with added micronutrients, including B-vitamins and iron.
Furthermore, rice shouldn’t serve as any athletes' primary source of vitamins, protein, or fiber -- those should come from other foods -- fruits, veggies, legumes, nuts, seeds, lean meats, protein powder, etc.
To sum it up, white rice is superior to brown rice for several reasons, including
- Ease of cooking
- Palatability
- Shelf life
- Digestibility
- More affordable
Is Hot Rice for Me?
The short answer is YES.
Hot Rice can benefit athletes of all kinds: bodybuilders, martial artists, combat athletes, endurance athletes as well as those recreational athletes seeking top-tier performance and recovery.
How to Use Apollon Hot Rice
Hot Rice can be used just the same as any other cream of rice -- breakfast, lunch, dinner, post-workout, pre workout, etc.
It can be eaten on its own or as part of a more comprehensive meal. One of our favorite combos is to mix a scoop of 50/50 Formula-X, 50/50 Formula-V, Casein or ISOBLAST after cooking a serving of Hot Rice.
For a richer, creamier meal, use milk instead of water.
